The Overseas School in Colombo has a built-in community service component into their mandatory curriculum, getting children involved in various community service activities and projects in the country. One such project is Hope for Kids, a group who works closely with the children’s ward at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. 8 years ago, these students helped create a playroom for the kids and parents as a therapeutic place away from the main ward area. This playroom is equipped with tvs, toys, stationary items etc and is now due for renovation and maintenance. Hope for Kids has organized a charity concert in aid of this to be held at the OSC auditorium on 18th September 2010 at 7:30. The event will feature Revelations, the Natanda Dance Troupe, the Royal College choir and many others along with some of the school’s students as well. Media sponsors include YES FM and the main event sponsor is Mobitel.
A photoshoot was carried out for this purpose with the children and mothers at the cancer hospital and will be featured at the event. View some of the photographs from the shoot here – http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=14873&id=100001388315796&l=b5297d9943
